Answer a few questions about your search for a school.

Apply
Complete your Halifax Independent School application
Be ready to upload:
- a copy of your child’s birth certificate
- a copy of your child’s immunization record
Be ready to upload:
- a copy of your child’s birth certificate
- your child’s two most recent report cards (waived for students entering Primary)
All applications must be accompanied by the non-refundable application fee.
E-transfer to accounts@halifaxindependentschool.ns.ca
Arrange your reference
Ask your child’s current teacher/school to complete the reference.
They must return it to us directly at admissions@halifaxindependentschool.ns.ca

Moving to Step 3 depends on the outcome of our initial review.
This review happens when the applicant’s file is complete and the application fee has been paid.
Step 3
Your child’s visit
An independent visit is a mandatory step in our application process.
Timing
Students applying for September admission visit between January 15 and the first day of school. Applicants for mid-year transfer visit by arrangement.
The length of the visit varies according to age and grade.
What happens during a visit?
- participation in regular classroom activities
- individual and group work
- unstructured play/social time
- in-class interaction with various teachers
Soon after a child’s visit, we check in to answer any follow-up questions. Our final review can take up to 10 business days.
Out-of-province/international applicants
Please contact us directly to learn more about Step 3 and students applying remotely.
Step 4
Our final review
Our final review and decision
We aim to let you know the status of your child’s application within 10 business days.
Approved applicants move to Step 4 when we contact them to offer a space.
No action/commitment is required from you until we offer a place.
Step 5
Your decision and commitment
When a space is offered, complete these steps to secure your child’s enrolment.
- pay non-refundable deposit (a portion of the fees)
- complete and return the legally binding Fee Payment Agreement, and
- choose your payment schedule and pre-arrange remaining payments.
Any space offered will be held for a maximum of four business days.
Failure to enrol by the deadline given will release that spot for other approved applicants.
